Yucaipa Valley Chamber of Commerce
The Yucaipa Valley Chamber of Commerce started a scholarship foundation in 2008 to provide college scholarships to Yucaipa High School students pursuing a degree in business. Since then we have provided three $500 scholarships to deserving students.
Each year the Yucaipa Valley Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Committee interviews a number of students who compete for the annual scholarship. This year the committee comprised of three members from the Chamber: Chamber CEO Pamela Emenger, Board Director Arinda Lotze and Chamber member Karla Christie. The committee was impressed with all the applicants’ responses to their questions and their extracurricular activities demonstrated their personal interest in what would form their future. The most difficult task was to select a winner. The committee unanimously decided on Travis Chavira who plans to pursue his degree in Business Administration at the University of California, Riverside. Travis not only had an impressive 3.77 grade point average but also was involved in AVID, the Book Club and the Leadership Diversity Council. His community service included the WES Fall Carnival for 3 years, volunteering at Y.A.P.S. and volunteering for the “Light the Night” walk for a cure at Cal Baptist University. His awards include the Bars & Stars for GPA 3.5+, Most Determined AVID Student, AVID Academic Excellence and Member in Good Standing with the Interact Club.
The Scholarship Awards Night was held Tuesday, June 8, to honor all the participants in their future academic endeavors. The Yucaipa Valley Chamber of Commerce was just one of several organizations to present a scholarship at the awards ceremony.
We wish all the best to Travis Chavira in his pursuit of a college degree in business and in all his future endeavors.
